Demerara Bank Limited on Thursday stated that it approved more than $1 billion in loans and over $36 million in Visa credit during the recently concluded International Building Expo 2026 held at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The banking institution, in a statement, related that over the four-day event, its representatives engaged with hundreds of patrons who stopped by its booths – not just to ask about interest rates or loan amounts, but to talk about their dreams.
Among them were young professionals planning their first homes, newly married couples preparing for the future, parents wanting more space for their children, and entrepreneurs looking to build a better life for their families.
However, during the exercise, the bank was impressed with the number of home loan applications received from people under the age of 30. This, the bank stated, tells them something important – a new generation of Guyanese is thinking differently.

“They are choosing to invest in their future earlier. They are choosing home ownership over years of renting. They are choosing to build wealth from the start of their careers, and Demerara Bank says it is proud to help make that possible,” the bank stated in a missive.
The Expo also showed what modern banking should look like, where customers no longer want complicated paperwork, long waiting times, or multiple trips to complete a single application.
In fact, over the past several years, Demerara Bank has quietly transformed the way it processes home loans. By investing in digital solutions and smarter internal workflows, the bank says it has simplified the journey from application to approval and, ultimately, to disbursement for qualified customers.
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the banking institution, Dowlat Parbhu, said the bank’s purpose extends well beyond financing homes.
“Every application represents a person who has placed their trust in us at one of the most important moments in their life. We never lose sight of that responsibility. Our role is not simply to approve loans; it is to help people move forward. When we make banking easier, we make life a little easier too, and that is what continues to drive our investment in innovation and customer service.”
Supporting this, the bank stated that the Expo also highlighted the growing confidence customers have in digital banking. From home loan inquiries and new account openings to Digital Banking, Visa Credit Cards, FloPay merchant services, and Ria Money Transfer, customers embraced solutions that allow them to manage their finances more conveniently and with greater flexibility.
Banking, the bank-related activity, is no longer something that should only happen during business hours or within the walls of a branch. Its vision is to place banking at customers’ fingertips: securely, conveniently, and wherever life takes them.
“Watching so many young Guyanese take the first step towards owning a home gives us tremendous confidence in the future of our country. These are investments that strengthen families, communities, and our national economy. We are committed to making that journey as simple and accessible as possible for every customer,” the bank said.
While the approvals recorded at the expo were significant, Demerara Bank stated that the real success lies in every family that will soon move into a home of their own.
“It is in every young professional who chooses to build equity instead of paying rent. It is in every customer who discovers that banking can be simple, fast, and built around their lifestyle.”
Meanwhile, Demerara Bank believes that at the end of the day, its purpose is not simply to provide financial services, but rather to help people build better lives.
“If the bank can make the journey to home ownership easier, faster, and more accessible along the way, it says it will know it is doing exactly what a modern bank should do.”
