Demerara Bank Limited on Saturday opened its doors to the public as the company engaged in its inaugural health fair, which was organised to promote health and safety in the workplace under the theme ‘Banking on your Health’.
The event, which began early on Saturday morning, saw dozens of people waiting in lines to be tended to by healthcare and fitness professionals from several organisations in Guyana.
Some of the services that were offered at the fair included cholesterol testing, blood pressure testing, diabetes testing, optical examinations and dental checkups. Additionally, there was collaboration with the National Blood Transfusion Service (Blood Bank) where persons were given the opportunity to donate blood.
While focusing on fitness as another component of health and wellbeing, trainers from the Evolution Fitness Gym were present to brief persons on ways they can improve not only the physical aspects of healthy living but also mental health and dieting, which can intensify the level of productivity being displayed in the workplace.
Christina Correia of Demerara Bank Ltd explained that this initiative was organised by the company to spread awareness on various diseases, as well as engage people in discussions to lead healthier lifestyles.
“The aim of the health fair is to promote healthy lifestyles among our employees, their families and our customers.”
She noted that while it is the company’s first venture into organising a public health fair, it is an initiative that they are seeking to make an annual event.
Several persons who took advantage of the services being offered related that the health fair will result in persons being healthier as they will be given guidelines on how to care for themselves. Furthermore, many expressed that such events should be organised by other companies to engage the public.
