Home News Demerara-Berbice power system shuts down, thousands affected
The Guyana Power and Light (GPL) last evening confirmed that the Demerara-Berbice Interconnected System (DBIS) went down at around 20:00h, resulting in power outage to citizens connected to the DBIS.
While they noted that remedial works were immediately taken to get the system working, the company stated that this process was expected to last for one hour.
In a statement issued last evening, GPL said, “When the DBIS goes down there is a process which needs to be activated to synchronise the system before it is back up and this is currently being undertaken. The reason for the shutdown has not yet been determined. GPL appreciates the patience of citizens during this temporary interruption. Further updates will be provided if necessary.”
