Demerara humble Essequibo by 9 wickets to snatch 1st round win

2019 Hand-in-Hand U-19 3-Day tournament…

As expected, Demerara defeated Essequibo — by nine wickets — in an early finish to the match on the third and final day of play at the Georgetown Cricket Club (GCC) ground at Bourda in Georgetown.
Demerara required only 25 runs to win the match, after Essequibo were bowled out in their second innings for 156 in 60.1 overs.
Essequibo had earlier reached 156 off a solid batting performance from Orlando Jaillal, who scored a polished 60 that was decorated with three boundaries and one six. He was supported by fellow opener Kevin Christian, who missed out on a half-century, scoring 49.
Bowling for Demerara, off-spinner Joel Spooner grabbed 6-54 in the second innings, following up his 5-10 in the first innings. Pradesh Balkishun also had 4-22 in the second innings for Demerara.
In pursuit of 25 for victory, Demerara lost the left-handed Adrian Hinds for two, when he was trapped in-front by Amit Persaud at 12-1; but Robin Williams and Sachin Singh ensured there were no further hiccups. Williams hit four boundaries in his unbeaten 18, while Singh remained unbeaten on five.
