Demerara looking to bring U-19 championship home today
The Demera outfit will look to disturb Berbice’s unbeaten streak in the attempt to capture the Guyana Cricket Board’s (GCB) Male Under-19 Inter-County 50-over title today, to establish themselves as the only unbeaten team in the tournament, despite numerous hurdles.
Demera’s unbeaten streak came thanks to their determination as they blistered the bowling attack to secure a nine-wicket win over Select XI on Friday last and a 48-run victory over Essequibo on Sunday.
Captain of Demerara Mavendra Dindyal
Captain of Demera Mavendra Dindyal while speaking to the media spoke divulged on the key areas to secure the title.
Dindyal said, “Think the guys are doing good, especially under pressure and we are just looking to move forward from this and bring the championship home, we would just like to tap up our batting a little bit more, I think we have a more capable batsman who can put more runs and I think the bowlers are up to par. Some better-depth bowling would be ok for me. I think one of our bowlers had a good day today, one of our fast bowlers but I think the second-hand bowlers really came and bowled well so I think that we are just looking to put balls in good areas.”
The batsman went on to expound on his personal expectations to score runs.
“Think it was a good ball to be honestly I just looking to spend some more time at the wicket and give myself some more time to score some reasons.”
The Guyana Cricket Board’s Male Under-19 Inter-County 50-over competition will continue today with Demera taking on Berbice at Malteenoes while at Lusignan Select XI takes on Esseequibo, with both sides will hunting their first win of the tournament.
