The Demerara Mutual Company has injected their support into an up and coming swimming star who is slated to appear at the CARIFTA Games this weekend. Leon Seaton Jr. has constantly displayed dominance in the pool and as such there is no doubt that the 13 year old will excel at the Caribbean level.
At a simple handing over ceremony Demerara Mutual Marketing Manager Clarence Perry noted that the company is proud of Seaton Jr.’s consistent performances and they are happy to sponsor the young man once again. “We wanted to reengage our sponsorship with Leon because we’ve noticed and followed his success and we’ve been keenly watching his development,” Perry explained.
Additionally, Perry noted that the company believes that investing in sport is a good way of fostering wholesome development. Further, he disclosed that the company is looking to continue supporting Seaton Jr. in his quest for excellence.
A grateful Seaton expressed his gratitude to the Insurance Company for assisting him in pursuing his CARIFTA dreams. He noted that whilst he is expected to return to Guyana with a medal or two, his Guyanese colleagues also possess the same ability. “I expect to do a fairly good job, there is a possibility of my other teammates medaling also,” the youth stated.
Seaton Jr., a St Rose’s High student qualified ahead of his Guyanese teammates in the 13-14 category by clocking 25.35s in the 50m freestyle, easing past the qualifying time of 26.02s. What made the performance even more commendable was the fact that it surpassed Andre Fowler’s 18 and over time of 25.64s. The young man who is no stranger to the pool has been competing since the tender age of five.
The young man departed Guyana on Thursday, one day behind the athletics contingent. The swimming leg will last from March 30 to April 3, in Jamaica.
