Demolition of Parika Police Station begins on Tuesday
The Parika Police Station will be demolished this week to facilitate the construction of a new and equipped station that meets the needs of all categories of reports.
This is according to the Guyana Police Force in a notice to the public on Saturday. The demolition of the Parika Station will commence on Tuesday.
As a result of this project, all the activities of the station will be temporarily shifted to the police quarters, two buildings east of the station.
The Police Force said it remains committed to its mandate as set out in the Constitution of Guyana and Chapter 16:01 of the Laws of Guyana, as it seeks to provide a service that guarantees the safety and security of every person within our country.
Since the new Administration took office on August 2nd, a number of police stations and other facilities have been demolished and reconstructed while others have been renovated.
Just recently, the construction of additional cells at the Camp Street Prison recommenced.
The work started just over a week ago, and Director of Prisons, Gladwin Samuels said upon completion, the cells will house approximately 180 prisoners, a move which will address the overcrowding at the various prisons.
It was subsequently revealed by Government officials that they will be seeking to ensure that public servants are able to work in more comfortable and secure spaces. (G9)
