On August 12, 2018, patrons who turned up at the Den Amstel Community Centre, West Coast Demerara, were treated to a memorable event as several young men and women took to the stage to compete for the titles of Miss and Mister Emancipation 2018.
After several hours of competition, the winners were revealed to the satisfaction of the audience. The crowned King was Shaquille Wellington who also copped the prizes for best platform presentation, best introduction, best talent, best personal style and best evening wear. Copping the first runner-up spot was Daniel Renee while Shamar Nedd was adjudged the second runner-up. He was also awarded the Mr Congeniality Prize.
With respect to the female leg of the competition, Norissa Stuart walked away with the crown and hundreds of thousands of dollars in prizes. She was also awarded prizes for best platform presentation, best introduction, best personal style and best evening wear.
Coming in as first runner up was Alieca James who won the best talent prize. Rounding off the top three was Donnickher July who also walked away with the Miss Congeniality prize.
The pageant received a good turnout from patrons. The promoters are confident that the pageant will be held on an annual basis and the committee will continue to empower young men and women but more so, use the platform to promote their cultures.
