– GDF & Buxton battle to draw
Den Amstel squeezed past Victoria Kings on Sunday night when the two locked horns on in the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Elite League III at Camp Ayanganna Ground.
They sank their East Demerara opponents 2 – 1 in the opening match of the double header that saw the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) narrowly secure a draw against Buxton United.
Den Amstel’s Gideon Payne was the first to get a taste of goal in the 30th minute, but the opposition soon had a helping when Aubrey Gibson found the equalizer in the 42nd minute.
In the second half, neither team could find the outlet to get ahead but with the regulation time whistle fast approaching Delon Canterman scored the decider in the 80th minute.
By now when the crowd had settled in, GDF and Buxton began their showdown and to the defending champion’s surprise, it was the Buxtonians that drew first blood compliments of Denver Dennis who scored in the 32nd minute.
GDF searched valiantly for the equalizer but were denied on several occasions. It was not until the final minute of play Amos Ramsey (90th) was able to level the playing field for the army men.
Meanwhile, Western Tigers and Fruta Conquerors recorded wins at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) Ground on Friday night when they took on New Amsterdam and Milerock FC, respectively.
