Den Amstel, GDF book quarter-final spots

– Pouderoyen, Indigenous All-Stars booted

On match day number two on Sunday at the Den Amstel Community ground on the West Coast of Demerara, home side Den Amstel and the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) FC joined Milerock and Winners Connection in the quarter finals of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Corona Super 16 tournament.
In the first match of the day GDF took on Pouderoyen FC and subsequently needled the latter in a tightly matched contest.
Delwin Fraser’s fourth minute strike was the only goal of the game as it remained locked in the midfield with both teams failing to penetrate the respective defences.
It was heartbreak for the Indigenous All-Stars as they lost 1-2 to Den Amstel. Gavin Graham scored a first half double for Den Amstel and it was enough as the second half went goalless.

Milerock FC’s Goalscorers (L-R): Oswald Benjamin, Denzil Fordyce and Joel Mc Kinnon

Graham opened his account in the third minute before Peter Parks equalized for the Indigenous XI just nine minutes later; however Graham restored his side’s lead just two minutes before halftime to the delight of Den Amstel’s supporters.
On Friday last, Milerock FC and Winners Connections booked their spots in contrasting fashion at the McKenzie Sports Club (MSC) Ground in Linden.
In the first match, Winners Connection took on Camptown FC and had to hold their nerve to win on penalty kicks after normal and extra time saw a 2-2 stalemate.
Netting for Winners Connection were Adrian Aaron and Joel Jemmot in the 35th and 89th minutes respectively. Jemmot’s last minute strike ultimately saved Winners Connection after Ozel Small struck twice for Camptown in the 26th and 64th minutes to keep his side in the lead.
Milerock FC made light work of Cougars FC beating them 3-0 through three first half strikes from Oswald Benjamin in the second minute, Denzil Fordyce in the 16th and Joel McKinnon in the 20th minute.
