Den Amstel Football Club dealt Santos FC a serious blow to their qualification for the next phase of the 2nd annual Petra Organised Limacol round-robin knock-out football tournament with a 1-0 defeat on Monday at the Leonora Stadium.

Andre Hector proved to be the difference between the two teams as he broke the deadlock in the 79th minute. The early exchanges were full of excitement for both sides but it was could not bring any prosperity for either side.
The West Demerara side which has won both of their matches to date, are almost certain of a spot in the quarter-final  while Santos most definitely need to win their remaining match to have a chance of qualifying.
In the earlier match, Uitvlugt Warriors strolled to a 3-1 victory over New Amsterdam United via brace from Jamal Harvey and goal by Trayon Bobb. Harvey gave his team an explosive start when he scored in the 1st minute, followed by Bobb in the 15th.
Harvey was then on the pounce once more in the 73rd.
The tournament will continue tonight at the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) where Grove Hi Tech will play Northern Rangers from 18:30h followed by Western Tigers against Uitvlugt from 20:30h and both matches  has a direct effect on qualification for the knock out rounds.
The event is being contested in a group round-robin format, with the top two finishers progressing to the quarterfinal round.
The winner of each group will receive $100,000 while the remaining teams will pocket $50,000, $30,000 and $20,000 apiece in order of placing.
Winner of the event will pocket $500,000 and a trophy while the second, third and fourth placed teams will receive $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding accolade.
To date, Banks DIH Limited under the GT Beer Brand, Trophy Stall and Star Party Rentals are the other companies that have thrown their support behind the championship.
