Deokie gearing towards another dominant performance

GMR&SC National Race of Champions…

Race car driver Daniel Deokie has set his sights on another dominant outing, when he competes at the Guyana Motor Racing and Sports Club (GMR&SC) second National Race of Champions for the year slated for July 2 at the South Dakota Circuit, Timehri, East Bank Demerara.

In April, Deokie was outstanding in the Sport Tuner (1600cc), winning all three races with some commanding and skilful driving.

“Heading into the second leg of the race of champions I’m looking to take over my good form from our last meet where I had a dominating performance. I’m just looking to continue being consistent,” the racer stated.

Given that he is the ‘man to beat’, the driver is confident that he can once again produce the goods despite the stiff competition expected.

“As long as all goes well according to plan, I am definitely confident of doing well. I’ve always loved having stiff competition which isn’t short in Guyana”.

Though his main focus lies in the 1600cc category, he plans on venturing into the Group Two class with the aim of causing some upsets given that he has made some changes to the car, as he still continues to learn its mechanics.

The Team ER-racing driver also thanked his sponsors D&G Foreign Auto, Robbie’s jewellery, Toucan Industries, Scott’s jewellery, Payless Variety Store, Emran and Raymond General Auto, along with Super 95 Gas.

Meanwhile, the meeting, which will be used as a warm up for drivers and riders for the second round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championships (CMRC) slated for July 30 at Frankie Boodram Wallerfield International Raceway in Trinidad and Tobago, has seen a large registration of competitors to date.

In Group One, 12 persons have registered; 10 persons for Street Tuner (1500cc) along with eight persons in the Starlet Cup who will add to the four in Group Three.

There are also eight bikes confirmed which included the likes of Mathew Vieira, John Bennett and Kevin Persaud.

In this regard, GMR&SC President Ramez Mohamed is calling on the fans to come out in their numbers to give support.

Mohamed acknowledged that numerous persons would attend the November meet, cheering for their Guyanese drivers but is adamant that the same enthusiasm is need at the local meets to encourage more drivers to compete.

Mohamed, who will be competing in Group Two at the meet, explained that when drivers participate at these local meets, it gives them a chance to become privy to any flaws their machines might have ahead of the favoured November CMRC final round.

The July 2 meet is sponsored by ANSA McAL, Prem’s Electrical, BM Soat, Mohamed’s Enterprise, Ready Mix, Special Auto, Japarts, Ticket Master, Palm Court, KGM, MAC batteries, S Jagmohan Hardware Supplies and Construction, L Mahabir and Sons Cambio and Choke Gas Station. (Akeem Greene)
