Eid-ul-Adha message from the Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana
Eid-ul-Adha is the annual occasion on which Muslims reflect on and celebrate the unquestionable obedience to God by Prophet Abraham. As our Muslim brothers and sisters gather to pray, demonstrate sacrifice and share with the less fortunate among us, the Government of the Cooperative of Republic Guyana joins in paying homage to all those who have sacrificed for their families, their communities and their country over the years.
For many years the Guyanese people have had to endure hardships and sacrifice on a day-to-day basis. Today we are closer to a better life for all of our people, in spite of hiccups in the journey. With a sense of patriotism and national pride and an unyielding commitment to the development of our fair land we shall continue to make progress together, leaving no citizen behind.
Just as the Muslim community is known to band together generally but especially in difficult times, so too, must we as Guyanese, stand together and united. At a juncture in our history when we continue to face sporadic threats to our national sovereignty we are obliged to take a signal from our Muslim brothers and sisters and mobilise in a show of unity and strength to make it abundantly clear that ‘not a blade of grass’.
As was the appeal for Eid-ul-Adha 2015, this is once again a fitting occasion for us to restate the call for a deepening of national unity and the strengthening of social cohesion among our people. Though diverse in origins we share a common destiny and it is imperative that we cooperate for the purposes of national advancement.
The message of Eid-ul-Adha is an example of the discipline and commitment needed, if we are to build Guyana into a nation which affords a good life for all Guyanese. The Government of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana appeals to all to conduct the sacrifices safely, with due consideration for the animals and as humanely as possible as is prescribed for in Islam.
Eid Mubarak to all Muslims.
