Deplorable conditions for doctors at Suddie Hospital

Dear Editor,
For the past six weeks the air condition unit in the doctor on call room at the Suddie Public Hospital is broken. Doctors working during the nights cannot rest there since there is no ventilation/window in the room provided.
Doctors are also susceptible to Zika and all the other mosquito-borne diseases. The Administrator, Medical Superintendent and the REO were informed on several occasions but nothing is being done. Doctors are forced to use the patient’s bed, the outpatient department, examination rooms and their cars, for those who have.
A few years ago there was need for a microwave oven for the same room. After many unsuccessful requests were made through the hospital, doctors eventually made contributions and bought it themselves.
Do doctors have to do the same thing now? The toilet is also not working. The Public Health Ministry should not be surprised if doctors refuse to turn up for duty in the nights. There is need for a fridge to store food; many times there is no water for doctors to drink.
These vital things do not cost much. The hospital and the Region have money and should spend it on the people who serve the public. Kindly assist in resolving these issues urgently.

Best Regards,
Doctors,
