Dey outsprints Narine in Flying Ace Cycling event

In the 10-lap racing event staged in New Amsterdam on Sunday, April 28, by the Flying Ace Cycling Club (FACC) to honour Mayor Winifred Haywood, residents and cycling fanatics witnessed some riveting battles, with the main one being Curtis Dey dethroning last year’s champion Balram Narine in an intense contest that brought supporters to their feet.
Occupying third position was Ralph Seenarine, while Mario Washington finished in fourth overall, and Kevin Ross finished in fifth.
Mario Washington, fourth place winner, topped the Juvenile category, while Jerimiah Joseph and Steve Bhimsingh finished respectively in second and third positions therein.
The U-14 category was won by Corriverton lad Aaron Rajnarine, while Whiteny Poyer was the lone female in the race, and the lone veteran in the race was Syborne Fernandes. They each received a special prize for competing.
Ralph Seenarine grabbed three sprint prizes while Balram Narine copped two sprint prizes. The overall winner, Curtis Dey, had one sprint prize.
The final lap of the race lasted for 12 minutes, and saw riveting action in the Narine/Dey personal contest.
The race began with the New Amsterdam Mayor gracing the event with her presence, and cycling action commenced at 13:00h.
This is the third edition of the race, and the second year in which it is being held in honour of New Amsterdam Mayor Winfred Haywood. (Brandon Corlette)
