Elton Dharry has arrived in Guyana ahead of his fight with Jesus Garcia on Saturday’s ‘Sangre Malo’ Card
Dharry who turned pro back in 2004, arrived home early Tuesday, met with Minister of Social Cohesion with responsibility for Sport Dr. George Norton at Ministry of Culture, Youth & Sports’ Main Street office. He along with the Guyanese fighters was greeted by the Minister who wished the fighters well ahead of the fight.
The prizefighter said that he was elated to be back in his country of birth and was even more excited to represent his country on home soil. Dharry confirmed that the road to the fight had been a stern one, as he completed some 56 rounds leading up to the fight, with 10 of those rounds boxed prior to his arrival in Guyana.
With the theme being Guyana versus Venezuela, Dharry believed that the fight will be an important one for the Guyanese who are tasked with defending their turf while Dharry seeks to join fellow co-main-event fighters; Dexter Marques and Dexter Gonsalves in their quest for international gold.
“The Bully” said the upcoming fight was important to him as he’s currently looking to place himself in contention for a possible international title fight; following some 18 consecutive wins.
The Guyanese pugilist further added that he had been scouting his opponent by watching fight tapes and was impressed by the Venezuelan fighter. The soft-spoken yet hard-hitting Dharry further added that he was not prepared to do much talking as he plans to let his gloves do the talking.
Meanwhile, Dharry’s coach Martin Gonzales said that his fighter was prepared to topple the Venezuelan come this Saturday, admitting that his student had been dedicating countless amount of hours in order to get himself fully prepared for the fight. The coach added that while they have seen footage of Garcia and were impressed, he still believes the Guyanese is the better man and will prevail victorious.
