Home News DHB celebrates 43 years in existence
On July 3 some 43 years ago, the Demerara Harbour Bridge was first opened to vehicular traffic. After four decades, the bridge remains a vital link and an important piece of infrastructure in the everyday lives of thousands of Guyanese.
The PPP/C Administration recognises the necessity of a bridge across the Demerara River and is committed to maintaining and ensuring that this structure remains operable and safe while we pursue the ideal of a modern four-lane, high-span, concrete bridge as a new project now at the procurement stage.
In a release to the media, it was stated that “We express thanks to the Chairman, to the Board of Directors, the General Manager and staff for all they have been doing to ensure that this bridge is usable. We recognise the contributions of the many who have served as both Directors and staff of the Demerara Harbour Bridge Corporation.”
