Diamond supermarket owner beaten during robbery

A Chinese supermarket at Diamond, East Bank of Demerara (EBD) was buglarised on Tuesday night after robbers stormed the establishment and in the process the owner was injured.
Reports are two men broke the wall at the back of the Hua supermarket located at Lot 521 Section A, Block X, Diamond, EBD at about 21:00 and entered the building.
A neighbour explained that the businessman who operates the establishment was had just returned home at the time of the robbery. This newspaper was told that the businessman heard noises and upon checking, he was pounced on by the suspects, one of whom was armed with a gun.

During the process, he was gun-butted to the head as the men ransacked the building. They carted off with a cellphone and an undisclosed amount of cash. Following the robbery, the Police were called but took one hour to reach the scene.
This publication understands that it is not the first time such an incident occurred at the business place. In October 2016, five armed men had stormed a well-known supermarket through the front gate, escaping with valuables and cash.
A tenant had confirmed the robbery, noting that the proprietors of the establishment were not present at the time of the robbery, but their relative who was there was beaten by the gunmen.
The employees of two other businesses, who were delivering items to the establishment at that time, were also robbed along with customers.
Reports indicate that the perpetrators had also cut the telephone line to ensure that no one would be able to call for help. That robbery was the second time the business was robbed.
