The donation was made by Digicel’s Communications Manager, Vidya Bijlall-Sanichara and Brand Ambassador, Christopher Barnwell, to the club’s President Alfred Mentore in the presence of the camp attendees.
Sanichara said that cricket and Digicel are synonymous and the company is honoured to be a part of the summer camp. The Communications Manger revealed that “our brand ambassador [Christopher Barnwell] told us that he is a part of the summer camp and that he would like us to partner with him as a way of giving back”.
She ended saying, “Digicel, being in Barnwell’s corner, we will always support cricket, DCC, the community and the youths; the youths are why we are here”.
Mentore echoed words of gratitude and posited that Digicel is the network that contributes to sports and such partnership would mean enormous benefits for the club if the telecommunications giant continues to invest with the club.
In addition, the club’s president explained that the camp has been in existence for some nine years now and usually sees a large numbers of its attendees going on to play for the National Youth teams. Currently, Ashmead Nedd, Qumar Torrington and Sachin Singh, all of whom were graduates of the camp and club members, are currently in England on tour with the West Indies Under-16 team.

Barnwell was in praise of the impact of the camp, stating, “When I was this age, I never had these opportunities, so it gives me great pleasure to come here and see these young players engage with Coach Gavin Nedd; it’s great to see we are producing players who will represent Guyana”.
