Digicel hosts annual “Mash Fit Camp” 2019

The hype of Mashramani 2019 has caused much excitement across the country, and Digicel has heightened this anticipation with the launch of its annual Mash Fitness Campaign.
The event, aimed at promoting fitness before the Republic Day celebrations, commenced on Wednesday at the Bourda Cricket Club Ground and will extend

until February 22.
Digicel Marketing Manager Ramesh Rupchand gave some insight into the initiative as he explained that this campaign has been around for many years. According to him, it is a free workout series that enables persons to practise a healthy lifestyle.
“This is like something that we always do for Mashramani to get people prepared and ready for the road. It’s a way of getting people to stay healthy, eat healthy. It’s a free workout programme and it goes straight until the day before Mashramani,” he related.
Rupchand further detailed that the camp is being held from Monday to Friday from 16:00h and is headed by fitness instructor Melissa “Vanilla” Roberts with assistance from other trainers.
“You could come out Monday to Friday starting from 4pm. We have different workout programmes, different days of the week. You come out and have fun, get to lose some weight and it’s absolutely free.”
The Marketing Manager emphasised that this was a way of giving back to customers who have been supportive throughout the year. While Digicel is the sole organiser, support has also been provided by Bermudez and Banks DIH’s Rainforest Waters.
“It’s our way of giving back to our customers. We have Bermudez and Banks

Rainforest Waters. They’re partnering with us to make sure that it is all part of giving back to our customers,” said Rupchand.
At the culmination of “Mash Fit Camp” 2019, prizes will be awarded to the participants who have shown great commitment to the exercise.
“We have some fabulous prizes that we are going to give away at the end of it, so it’s not just coming and work out, but we’re going to reward these persons who take part.”
Roberts, who is also a singer, is expected to work with trainers to hype the participants as they prepare to take the road on Mashramani Day. There were approximately 250 persons present at the first session.
The 49th Republic celebrations will feature some 39 activities which have been organised by the Social Cohesion Ministry over the course of the next six weeks. With regard to security, the Guyana Police Force (GPF), in collaboration with the Civil Defence Commission (CDC), has taken up the mantle of increasing security for the Mash Bands and revellers.
The Mashramani theme this year is “Celebrate Mash 2019; With Victory in Mind – Rediscovering El Dorado”.
