Digicel’s Summer Cash Vault: 5 customers walk away with over $500,000 each

Excitement masked the chill atmosphere at MovieTowne Parking Lot on Saturday evening as Digicel wrapped up their Summer Cash Vault, which saw five lucky customers each walking away with over $500,000.
After six weeks of intense letter grabbing, five lucky Digicel customers stepped into the cash vaults, where they had a chance of winning $3 million each — totally $15 million in cash.

Though none of the customers was able to reach that million-dollar milestone, they all left that night much richer than how they came.
In the vault, Maveline Johnson of Linden (who had someone enter the vault on her behalf) was able to grab $88,000; Bartica’s own Preston King’s representative held onto $119,000; Sherwin Goring bagged $151,000; Melessa Dabydeen of the West Coast of Demerara secured $187,000 from the vault; and Abigail Garrett of Soesdyke bagged a whopping $219,000.
After their winnings were revealed that night, a Digicel representative announced that each of the five customers would receive an additional $500,000, adding to what they had won while in the vault.
Sherwin Goring told Guyana Times that he has been a loyal Digicel customer for some time. The man said he usually tops up his phone, due to his nature of work. He was unaware of the promotion, the man said, so he was surprised when he got the call from a Digicel representative, telling him that he had won.
“I always top up; because of my job, I always have to have credit,” Goring said, “So, this one day I’m under my car…a phone call (came) and the caller said, ‘Do you (know) that you spelled the word CASH?’ and I said, ‘Hello, me in (in) no spelling classes.’ They said, ‘no. This is Digicel.’ And, today I’m here.”
Goring explained that he would be putting his money to “good use.”
Melessa Dabydeen said she almost did not enter the promotion, after she was having a difficult time getting all of her letters. But the lucky woman made it to the final stage of Digicel’s Summer Vault, and she’s calling it an “unexpected” turn of events.
“I’ve got some repairs to do, so I’m going to be doing those repairs.” That’s where Dabydeen’s winnings will be going.
After being launched at the Pegasus Hotel in July, the promotion ran for six weeks.
Digicel Communications Manager Vidya Sanichara explained that the company had formulated the easiest way to enter the promotion.

To enter, customers had to top up their phones with $1000 in Digicel credit to spell out ‘C-A-S-H’.
Those who were successful were given a chance to enter a vault, where they could grab the money. To determine if they had collected the letters, customers texted GRAB to 1441.
Previous winners, who also walked home with over $500,000 in cash, were Germain Knight of Georgetown, Ramdai Ramnand of Berbice, Trudy Ramberan of Georgetown, Amar Persaud of Grove, and Sheneza Caesar of Kwakwani.
As the Cash Vault show concluded, Digicel’s Chief Executive Officer, Gregory Dean, announced that with the upcoming Cricket Carnival, Digicel customers would have a chance to win more prizes, as the company has plans to host other promotions during that period.
The crowd that gathered that night was entertained with a special musical performance from Vacardi Singh. (G2)
