A double header at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground on Sunday resulted in Golden Grove and Dolphin Secondary booking their spots in the 2022 Milo Under-18 Schools football semi-finals.
And, according to representatives from the two teams, they are both extremely happy to have made it this far.
Golden Grove were the first victors of the day, thumping Friendship Secondary 4-1 in their encounter.

In the second half, Richards completed his brace in the 67th minute, while Duwad Wilson added one in the 90th for the Golden Grove win.
After the game, Richards shared his thoughts on his team’s performance and where their opponents went wrong.
“I’m glad we come out with a victory and I got to say thanks for my team-mates, for passing the ball good to me and helping me to score goals,” Richards told Guyana Times Sport.

A moment from the Dolphin v President’s College contest

“I think we defence stronger than them, they need good defenders,” he remarked in his assessment of the Friendship outfit.
The youngster went on to add, “I think the attacking midfield did better, they pass the ball to we good and help us to score
“Train hard and continue to share a good relationship with your team-mates,” the young baller listed as his recipe for preparing for the semis and possibly the final.
In the following game, Dolphin Secondary led an onslaught against President’s College, who could not so much as muster a reply.
Leading the charge for Dolphin were Caldwell Peters (15th, 84th) and Gerry Burnette (24th, 86th), who both scored doubles. Samuel Grant’s goal in the 59th minute added to an already decorated sheet, as Dolphin won 5-0.
Captain Burnette articulated hopes of Dolphin getting to the coveted final.
“The game was wonderful today, but the team wasn’t good and the defending and passing the ball good. That’s all,” he said.
“I feel good to reach the semi-final, scoring goals and cooperating more with the team. I hope we reach to the final.
“We need to practise more hard, come out every day and communicating.”
The Milo tournament will continue on Wednesday evening with the other two quarterfinal games. Defending champions Christianburg Wismar Secondary will look to one-up Cummings Lodge Secondary at 16:00h (4pm), while North Ruimveldt and West Ruimveldt lock horns at 18:00h (6pm).
