DPP reviewing file on REO for accidentally shooting woman
The Chambers of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) is presently reviewing the Police file on the Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region Nine, (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo) Karl Singh, who was arrested last month for accidentally shooting a woman.

Gladys Benedict, 25, a pharmacist of St. Ignatius Village, Central Rupununi, was reportedly shot to her abdomen on July 20 by Singh while she was seated in his pickup vehicle. The incident occurred in the Commercial Zone of Lethem Central.
After the incident, the 33-year-old REO took the woman to the Lethem Regional Hospital, where she underwent emergency surgery. The Police, in a statement, had said that Singh was later arrested and his licensed firearm was confiscated and lodged.

In a subsequent statement, the Police Force has said its investigations have revealed that the shooting was “allegedly accidental”. On July 22, the REO was released on station bail pending investigations.
