The matter regarding the demise of 58-year-old Pulmattie Ramotar, of Success, East Coast Demerara, is currently seeking the attention of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).
Ramotar died on August 18, 2017, two days after she was struck by an allegedly speeding Police Officer on the Success Public Road. The mother of three succumbed to her injuries while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
Information reaching Guyana Times suggested that Police, over the past few days,
sent the case file over for the DPP’s advice, after which, the determination will be made on whether or not Police will pursue the matter against the implicated rank.
Reports were that Ramotar was hit while attempting to cross the roadway. Police investigations had also revealed that at about 08:00h on the morning in question, motor car PVV 8233 was proceeding East along the northern carriageway of Success Public Road, when the pedestrian attempted to make her way over the roadway (from South to North) and ran into the path of the vehicle which was said to be speeding.
As a result of the impact, the woman was flung into the air and landed a short distance from the point of impact, where she remained unconscious until her body was removed from the scene. Police investigators disclosed that a breathalyser test was administered to the Policeman where it was relayed that no trace of alcohol was detected. (Shemuel Fanfair)
