The new Board of Directors was appointed for the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) to serve for a period of one year. Director of the Dr Yesu Persaud Clinical Education Centre at the University of Guyana (UG), Dr Madan Rambarran will serve as Chair for the Board’s tenure.
The Board already held its first meeting on Monday and its members include: Harryram Parmessar, Chartered Accountant, Parmesar Accountants; Malcolm Watkins, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health; Dr Amarnauth Dukhi, Head of Neurosurgery at GPHC, representing the Guyana Medical Association; Dr Fawcett Jeffrey, Director of Medical and Professional Services, GPHC (ex-officio member); Brigadier (ret’d) George Lewis, Chief Executive Officer, GPHC (ex-officio member); Dr Emanuel Cummings, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Academic Engagement, University of Guyana, representing UG; Cleopatra Barkoye, representing the Guyana Nurses’ Association; and Dawn Gardener, representing the Guyana Public Service Union (GPSU).
The Ministry of Finance’s nominee to the Board is yet to be named.

Meanwhile, Attorney-at-Law Glen Hanoman has been appointed as the Head of the Guyana National Broadcast Authority’s (GNBA) Board of Directors by President Dr Irfaan Ali.
The announcement was made by the Office of the Prime Minister on Tuesday. It was noted that the appointments were made pursuant to the Broadcast Act No 17 of 2011.
A statement from the Government stated that the appointments of the Chair and members of the Board were made after significant examination of the most competent and available candidates of Guyanese patriots.
The appointment of Hanoman and members Valmikki Singh – spectrum specialist; Devi Sukhdeo – accountant; Robert Mohamed – broadcaster, and Jason Abdulla – digital communications specialist took effect from December 1. The Opposition and the Telecommunications Agency representatives are still to be named.
The Guyana National Broadcasting Authority is the legal body in Guyana with the responsibility to regulate, monitor, protect, improve and maintain the highest standards of broadcasting in Guyana. The Government noted that the selection of such a diverse and experienced Board is indicative of its commitment to ensuring professionalism, equity and high standards in the broadcast industry in Guyana.
