Dr Tulsi Dyal Singh Coaching Sessions restarted under strict COVID-19 guidelines

The Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) last Saturday restarted its 2020 Dr Tulsi Dyal Singh Coaching Programme after same had been halted for six months because of the coronavirus pandemic.
The programme is sponsored by Texas-based medical doctor Dr. Tulsi Dyal Singh, and coaching is being conducted by BCB Head Coach Winston Smith, who is level-three coaching certified.
Smith last Saturday visited the Port Mourant Ground and conducted a two-hour batting clinic with ten members of the Port Mourant Cricket Club; and on Sunday he was at the Area H Ground to conduct a batting clinic for female players.
BCB President Hilbert Foster and Public Relations Officer Simon Naidu visited both venues during the sessions, and the BCB President encouraged the players to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them by the board and Dr. Singh. He advised the youths to practise at home what they had learnt at the sessions.
The players were assured that the Berbice Cricket Board would always put their welfare first, and would continue to invest heavily into their development, as the determination is to ensure that the legacies of Rohan Kanhai and Basil Butcher live on in the future.
Foster has also cautioned the youths to stay away from crime, drugs, and the evil ways of Satan, while encouraging them to recognize the importance of education and embracing the opportunity to stay in school. The BCB, he promised, would assist them in any way possible to complete their educational pursuits.
Coach Smith used the two-hour sessions to explain the five principles of batting, while emphasis was also placed on physical fitness and running between the wicket.
Public Relations Officer Simon Naidu disclosed that upon completion of the batting clinics, the BCB would host clinics for bowlers across Berbice.
He noted that the sessions were held under Government’s strict COVID-19 guidelines relative to social distancing, regular cleaning of hands, wearing of face masks, and limiting the number of persons present, among other things.
Coaching sessions would be held on Wednesday for members of the Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club, MS, then at the Rose Hall Canje Ground on Saturday, and at Edinburgh on Sunday.
