The Brazilian authorities are in the process of formulating the agreement to begin drilling a number of wells in the South Rupununi, Region Nine (Upper Takatu-Upper Essequibo) following the end of the May/June rainy season, according to Guyana’s Ambassador to Brazil, George Talbot.

and the Complementary Agreement to the Technical Cooperation Agreement between the two countries are in the channel and will be ready very soon. He added that the project will commence before the end of 2017 once the agreement is signed.
Ambassador Talbot revealed that a third meeting of the administrative aspect of the Partial Scope Agreement is scheduled for July and under the agreement, Guyana will be able to export some 180 plus under-used items to Brazil. He noted the agreement includes St Kitts and Nevis as a third party serving as a boost for trade.
He said that after the drilling would have commenced on the Brazilian side, Guyanese counterparts would be trained in drilling of the wells, operational procedures and well maintenance.
“The element of capacity training is very important on this project which makes more than just a single intervention of drilling and leaving and building of capacity so that in the future Guyanese will be able to perform the works,” he said.
The Ambassador said that Guyana is working assiduously to enforce the International Transport Agreement it has with Brazil; adding that they have been working closely with the Attorney General’s Chambers and is hopeful that the National Assembly will be able to take some decisive action soon. He noted that the agreement will strengthen trade ties and allow the easier movement of good and services.
He commended the Government for going ahead with works on the Linden-Lethem road and the bridge across Kurupukari.
Public Infrastructure Minister David Patterson is expected to be in Brazil later this month to have discussions to determine a bi-lateral agreement on infrastructure.
