Drinking spree ends in murder

A drinking spree on Friday night turned deadly after a gold miner was stabbed to death during a row with another man in Regional Division One (Barima-Waini).
Dead is Peter James, a 26-year-old gold miner of Baramita, North West District. The incident occurred at Barama Line Baramita, NWD, at about 23:30h.
Based on the information received, James and the suspect were known to each other, and on Friday at about 15:00h, both the victim and the suspect were imbibing alcohol. At about 22:30h, Police said the victim and the suspect got into a heated argument which caused the suspect to arm himself with a knife.
During the argument, the suspect allegedly used the knife to stab James in his right arm. Having been stabbed, James then ran from the scene and the suspect gave chase. However, after covering a distance of about 200 feet, investigators said the victim collapsed and fell to the ground in front of a fenced yard.
Upon seeing such, public-spirited persons attempted to stop the suspect from inflicting any further injuries to the victim, and the suspect thereafter walked away from the scene and made good his escape on foot.
James was rushed to the Baramita Health Centre where he was seen and examined by Medex Edghilo and admitted into the said health centre but died whilst receiving treatment.
His body will be transported to the Port Kaituma Mortuary for PME. Police are on the hunt for the suspect. (G9)
