A resident of Moraikobai Village, Mahaicony River, Region Five (Mahaica-Berbice), was killed in an accident along the Moraikobai trail on Thursday, after he was reportedly pinned by his tractor while providing assistance to a lorry driver.
Dead is Malone Antonio, also called “Bill”, who was a tractor operator. The incident reportedly occurred at about 09:30h after a lorry which was heading to Moraikobai, was stuck in the trail. As a result, the driver sought assistance from the 37-year-old tractor operator, who attached his tractor to the lorry with a chain. According to reports, in the process of trying to remove the lorry from the ditch, the tractor turned turtle and flipped backwards, pinning Antonio resulting in his death.
E Division (Linden-Kwakwani) Commander, Linden Lord noted that he, along with ranks from the Traffic Department visited the scene and took Antonio’s body to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The body is presently at the Wismar Hospital Mortuary in Linden awaiting a post-mortem examination. The driver of the lorry was later questioned by Police in relation to the incident.
Moraikobai is an Amerindian settlement situated up the Mahaicony River. Access from Linden is gained via the sand trail which begins at the Linden-Highway junction.
