Driver electrocuted after excavator hits GPL power line

Thirty-year-old Andrew Sookra of Kaneville, East Bank Demerara, a truck driver, was reportedly electrocuted on Tuesday after the excavator he was transporting came into contact with a high-voltage Guyana Power and Light (GPL) line near Orangestein, East Bank Essequibo.
According to reports received, Sookra had opened the truck’s tray to facilitate the unloading of the excavator when its boom reportedly became tangled with the overhead power line.
Sookra reportedly received electric shocks and was thrown into a nearby ditch, where he sustained severe burns to his hands, feet, and chest.
He was taken to the De Kinderen Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The operator of the excavator was reportedly detained and later released on bail pending further investigations.
