Driver gets $500,000 bail for cyclist death

An East Canje resident was on Wednesday placed on $500,000 bail by Magistrate Renita Singh when he appeared at the Reliance Magistrate Court to answer to a causing death by dangerous driving charge.
Mohandas Meekum also called ‘Marvin’ is accused of driving motor lorry BWW 1831 in a dangerous manner on September 21, 2018 at Adelphi thus causing the death of Rajendranauth Harold-Singh.
At the time of the accident Harold-Singh, 52, of Lot 28 Reliance Abundant East Canje, was riding motorcycle with plates CF 1615 which is owned by the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo).
Meekum, 36, had just come out of his Betsy Ground East Canje yard when the accident occurred.
An autopsy performed on the body gave the cause of death as multiple injuries consistence with a vehicular accident.
It was reported that that Haroldsingh was on his way home from work when he collided with the canter driven by Meehum which was reversing out of a yard.
The now dead man was reportedly flung into the air and landed on the roadway. He received injuries and was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital where he died while receiving medical attention. Meanwhile, Meekum is expected to return to court on January 23.
