Lima Sands accident
– file to be sent to DPP for advice
Two drivers were questioned in relation to the death of five-year-old Orissa Williams, who lost her life tragically on the Lima Sands Access Road on December 11, 2016. According to information reaching Guyana Times, the investigation into
the matter is still ongoing and the file will be dispatched to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for advice shortly.
Relatives have expressed their dissatisfaction with the manner in which the Police are handling the matter. However, the Police were quick to assure that they are doing everything to ensure that justice is served. The driver of the vehicle, who was held by Police for the child’s death, has been released on station bail, pending investigations.
The autopsy conducted by Government Pathologist, Dr Nehaul Singh, revealed that five-year-old Orissa Williams died as a result of a crushed skull sustained from the accident.
The little girl was killed on the Lima Sands Access Road around 14:30h on Sunday, when a tractor bearing registration plate 21496 and trailer, TBB 4806, owned and driven by Ganga Persaud, a hire car driver of Lot 11 Lima Sands Essequibo Coast, ran over her.
Information revealed that the tractor was proceeding North along the Lima Sands Access Road, while two pedestrians, Ivor Courtman (Junior) and Orissa Williams, were standing on the eastern side of the road facing West.
According to Police information, Orissa was in the process of running across the road when she fell and it was then one of the rear wheels of the tractor reportedly ran over her head. The child was picked up in an unconscious state and rushed to the Suddie Public Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Police are currently conducting their investigations.
