Driver granted station bail after striking down pensioner
The driver who fatally struck down 81-year-old Parbattie Ramsarran of Lot 4D Nigg, Corentyne, Berbice was on Wednesday granted station bail.
According to information received, the driver is said to be a Chinese businessman of Robb Street, Lacytown, Georgetown, and he has since posted bail in the sum of $100,000. However, he was instructed to lodge his passport at the Albion Police Station.
It was reported that the accused was driving motorcar PPP 1008 at a fast rate when he collided with the woman as she was in the centre of the pedestrian crossing at Nigg Public Road, Corentyne, Berbice.
As a result of that impact, the woman sustained severe injuries about her body. She was picked up and taken to the Port Mourant Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
The post mortem examination is expected to be conducted on January 14.
