A driver who was allegedly speeding along the Zorg Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) and collided with a utility pole before plunging into a trench, is in a serious condition at the Lima Public Hospital in a critical condition. Injured is Fazil Hussain, a 23-year-old mechanic of Good Intent, Essequibo Coast. Police said preliminary enquiries revealed that at about 01:40h the motorcar, PAG 4292, was proceeding north along the western lane at a fast rate when, while negotiating a double bend, the driver lost control and collided with a utility pole on the eastern side of the road.

The impact caused the pole to fall onto the vehicle, after which it toppled and ended up in a nearby trench with its wheels facing upwards.
The vehicle was owned and driven by Hussain, and he was accompanied by Toshar Samaroo, a 21-year-old of Spring Garden.
Reports are that residents assisted in removing the men from the vehicle and while Hussain was found unconscious, while Samaroo was conscious but fled the scene. The injured man was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he was examined by a doctor on duty and diagnosed with internal bleeding and fluid in the lungs. He was later transferred to the Lima Public Hospital in a critical condition and remains in the Emergency Care Unit on life support.
The vehicle was subsequently removed and lodged at the Suddie Police Station for examination and according to Police CCTV footage from the area will be examined.
Meanwhile, as a result of the crash, power was lost in the area and the Guyana Power and Light Inc (GPL) had advised that customers from La Union to Supenaam experienced a service interruption between 10:00h and 12:00h to facilitate works to replace the damaged utility pole.
