Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on December 2, 2016 at Industrial Site Access Road, Eccles, EBD, he drove motor lorry GPP 1637 in a manner dangerous to the public, thereby causing the death of Williams.
In a bail application, his Attorney, Nigel Hughes successfully requested bail for his client, noting that the defendant had stopped at a vendor and was about to move off when someone screamed that a woman was caught under his vehicle.
The victim had just exited Norton Street, Bagotstown and had walked onto the main access road when she was run over. It is unclear how the woman ended up under the vehicle.
Attorney Hughes stated that his client stopped and went to the woman’s assistance and stayed at the scene of the accident to assist Police with their investigations.
He told the Magistrate that the defendant had no previous brushes with the law and the accident was an unfortunate one.
Bail was granted in the sum of $500,000. Williams will return to court on January 19.
