Driver who killed 4-year-old was drunk – Police

The two drivers involved in the fatal accident that claimed the life of a young child on Saturday night are under Police guard.
On Sunday, Guyana Times was told that the driver of the Tundra vehicle, with registration plate GPP 3500 belonging to C Ramnarine, 19, of First Avenue, Bartica, Essequibo, is currently in a city hospital. He received injuries as a result of the collision that killed 4-year-old Abiola Providence of Newtown, Kitty. Other reports indicated that he was driving under the influence (DUI).
The driver of the Toyota Allion with registration plate PMM 1426 is said to be in Police custody.

Guyana Times understands that there were no other serious injuries in the fatal accident. Meanwhile, a Police source close to the investigation revealed that the case file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions, who is expected to make a determination on charges soon.
Reports are that the deceased little girl was in the rear seat of the car with her relatives when the driver, negotiating a turn on Sheriff and Garnett Streets, collided with the Tundra.
Reports also stated that young Providence died on the spot. When this newspaper visited the scene the child’s body had been lying on the road. The child’s mother and grandmother, who were rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, are said to be stable. Police investigations are continuing.
