Drugs, improvised weapons, alcohol found during prison raid
A raid by law enforcement officers at the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara, unearthed drugs, improvised weapons and alcohol among other contraband items.
Prison officials said that on Tuesday morning, ranks of the Guyana Police Force and the Guyana Prison Service conducted a search a the Lusignan Prison between 06:00h and 08:15h.
The items which were discovered during the raid on Tuesday
Among the items seized were 34 improvised weapons, five cellular phones, six lighters, four pieces of broken mirror, three cellular phone chargers, three earpieces, three mobile SIM cards, a bottle of fermented wine, and seven bottles of oil.
All of the items were seized, as well as a quantity of cannabis which weighed 34 grams, and later taken to the Vigilance Police Station and lodged.
