Drunken father stabs teen son

A 19-year-old lad has been stabbed by his drunken father at their home at Number 55 Village, Corentyne, Berbice on Monday evening.
Police reports are that the 43-year-old father and his friends were in the yard consuming alcohol. The son had retired to bed, but could not sleep because of the noise his father and his friends were making. As a result, he went downstairs and asked them to tone down the noise.
This triggered an argument between the father and son, during which the father armed himself with a screwdriver and stabbed his son to the chest.
The teenager ran out of the yard and was rescued by his neighbour, who rushed him to the Skeldon Public Hospital. He, however, took self-discharge and went to his mother’s residence and told her that he was okay, after which he went home.
According to his mother, at about 07:30h on Tuesday, her son collapsed in front of her gate. As a result, she rushed him to the Port Mourant Public Hospital, where he was seen by a doctor and was later transferred to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he is a patient.
Checks were made for the suspect, but he was not found. Investigations are ongoing. (G9)
