The featured event of the company’s anniversary celebrations has been an annual blood drive which was initiated by the company about 10 years ago. This year, the blood drive was highly welcomed by the National Blood Transfusion Service (NBTS) as there is currently a dire need for donations in Guyana. The Director of NBTS, Dr Pedro Lewis, expressed gratitude for this initiative as he emphasised the need for blood donors. Dr Lewis stated that every drop of blood can save a life. He further relayed that the Blood Bank supplies the entire country and there is a constant demand as hospitals are always in need. As such, he encouraged other entities to follow in the footsteps of DSCL by hosting events similar in nature.

Marketing Coordinator of Demerara Shipping Company Limited, Devica Jhagdeo, explained the establishment’s motive behind their charitable strides. She highlighted that they are fulfilling their cooperative social responsibility by reaching out to the less fortunate and giving back to underserved communities. She shared in the company’s delight for adding value to the lives of the residents of both homes as well as assisting patients in need of blood transfusion. Jhagdeo indicated that similar undertakings are to be expected by DSCL in the future.
