Duo arraigned for armed robbery committed on NIS officer

Two men were on Friday arraigned with armed robbery charges when they appeared at the Whim Magistrate’s Court. They were accused of robbing a National Insurance Scheme (NIS) officer.

Rawle Park

Forty-nine-year-old Rawle Park, a cane harvester of Lancaster Village, Corentyne, along with 37-year-old Balram Sukraj, a fisherman of the same village, appeared before Magistrate Renita Singh via Skype and pleaded not guilty to the charge when it was read to them.
The police stated that on April 20, 2020, at around 21:30h, the two men attacked and robbed 29-year-old Robindra Hansrajua also known as “Vicky” – a NIS officer.
It was reported that Hansrajua was walking on the Whim Public Road on his way home when he was attacked from behind by two men – one of whom was armed with a cutlass and the other with a piece of wood.

The duo reportedly choked and threw the young man to the ground and started to beat him to the head and other parts of his body.
They then relieved him of an iPhone 6 Plus valued at $80,000, a gold chain valued $30,000, and $25,000 in cash.
The two men were granted bail in the sum of $100,000 each and will make their next court appearance on June 6, 2020.
