Two men were on Tuesday arraigned for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition when they appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Thirty-five-year-old Brenton Charles, also known as ‘Tattooman’, of Vergenoegen, East Bank Essequibo (EBE) and of D’Urban and Camp Streets, Georgetown; along with 26-year-old Raheem Benn, a mechanic/bond clerk of 11th Avenue, Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara (EBD), denied the charge when it was read to them by Magistrate Alisha George.
It was reported that on July 9, 2020, Police ranks intercepted a motor car after it had sped away upon seeing a Police patrol vehicle.
As the ranks approached the vehicle, they observed a male who was seated in the front passenger seat tossing an object through the window.
Upon checking, the weapon and several live rounds were recovered. Both the driver and the male passenger were detained.
Magistrate George granted the duo bail in the sum of $100,000 each with the stipulation that they report to Sparendaam Police Station on the 15 day of every month until the determination of the matter. They were also instructed to lodge their passports.
The matter was adjourned to December 8, 2020.
