Police ranks in Georgetown have arrested two males after they were found in possession of an unlicensed weapon.
The discovery was made around 20:00h on Wednesday in Campbellville, Georgetown.
According to Police reports, the ranks were on a mobile patrol on Dennis Street when they observed the two males, each riding a bicycle, acting in a suspicious manner.
The officers decided to stop and search the men and during the process, one of them was found in possession of an unlicensed .380 pistol with six live rounds.
Both suspects, a 32-year-old resident of Campbellville, Georgetown, and a 21-
year-old resident of Thomas Street, Kitty, Georgetown, were arrested and taken into Police custody.
The men are being processed for court as they assist with further investigations.
In the monthly statistics at the end of February 2018, the Guyana Police Force reported that some 24 illegal firearms were taken off the streets to date, compared to 22 for the corresponding period last year.
These include: 15 pistols, four revolvers, four shotguns, and one sub-machine gun. Moreover, 15 of these weapons were found in A Division (Georgetown-East Bank Demerara); four in B Division (Berbice); one in C Division (East Coast Demerara) and two each in F (Interior Locations) and G (Linden-Kwakwani) Divisions. No unlicensed weapons were found in D (West Demerara) and E (Essequibo Coast and Islands) Divisions during that period.
