Duo get bail for possession of ecstasy

A minibus driver and a taxi driver were hauled before the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to charges relating to possession of ecstasy tablets. The two men were held during a sting operation by the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU).
Twenty-five-year-old Samuel Bruce, called Samie Wintz, of Lot J 944 Jackson Street, Tucville, Georgetown and Kelder Roxana Halley, 21, of Lot 224 Gibson Street, Guyhoc Park, Georgetown appeared before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on Thursday and pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The charge stated that the two were found with 63 grams of ecstasy pills in their possession on October 15, 2018.
Bruce’s Attorney, Tiffany Jeffery, in a bail application, informed the court that the illegal drug was not found in her client’s vehicle or in his possession.
However, CANU Prosecutor Konyo Sandiford stated that Bruce handed the illicit tablets over to an undercover CANU officer, who subsequently gave an oral statement.
Meanwhile, Prosecutor Sandiford, who objected to bail, informed the court that Halley gave a confession statement.
According to facts presented in court on Friday, Halley was accused of orchestrating the drug exchange by telling Bruce that she was in need of the ecstasy pills. She was represented by Attorney-at-Law Bernard DaSilva.
The defendants were each placed on $150,000 bail, and the matter was adjourned until November 9, 2018, but they were ordered to report to the CANU Headquarters on Mondays and Fridays until the investigation is completed.
