Duo gets life imprisonment for murder of security guard

Shivnarine Jainarine, also called “Sammy” or “Samuel”, of Trainline Dam, Port Mourant, Corentyne; and Ryan Persaud, also called “KK”, of Williamsburg, were on Thursday sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Jagdat Ramcharran, called “Ronald”, 61; a security guard. The possibility of parole will be considered after the men would have spent 45 years in prison.
The murder was committed between January 6, and January 7, 2013 at the Iskcon Hari Krishna Mandir at Block 6 Williamsburg, Corentyne Berbice.
A third man Kerwin Hintzen, also called “Rattie”, was previous sentence to 20 years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to heinous crime.
Attorney Mursalene Bacchus represented Jainarine while Arudranauth Gossai represented Persaud.
The State’s case which was presented by State Prosecutor Mandel Moore stated

that on the day in question, the trio murdered the security guard during the course of a robbery.
The security guard’s body was discovered by a worshipper. He recalled that when he arrived at the Madir, no one came to greet him and the gate was locked.
After making several calls and getting no response, the worshipper jumped the fence and to his horror, noticed the security guard lying on the ground.
Government Pathologist, Dr Vivekanand Bridgemohan gave the cause of death as manual strangulation. The dead man’s head was also basked in.
Justice Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after listening to a probation report noted that from the evidence during the trial it was evident that both men profited from the crime. Jainarine received $5000 for his involvement in the robbery while Persaud

was paid $1500 the following day for his involvement.
She also noted that none of them did anything to extricate themselves from the crime when they saw the security guard tied up.
In handing down the sentence, Justice Beharry said she took into consideration the physical and emotional trauma the family of the dead security guard has had to endure. She also ordered that through the prison’s welfare department that they are provided with counseling.
