Duo intercepted with 12.8kg ganja at Paradise

Two men of Rose Hall, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), were on Thursday intercepted with 12.8 kilograms of ganja at Factory Road, Paradise, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The interception was made by agents of the Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) who received information that the duo was travelling in a motor vehicle at Paradise, ECD.
As such, the vehicle was stopped and a search was conducted on the two men and their bags. During the operation, several wrapped parcels containing the cannabis were unearthed.
As a result, Vickey Doodnauth, 23, and Richey Sewadhan, 19, of Market Road, Rose Hall, Berbice, were arrested and escorted to CANU Headquarters where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 12.8kg.
Meanwhile, the two men were subsequently charged and appeared before Magistrate Liverpool at the Vigilance Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
They were remanded to prison and the matter was adjourned to September 17, 2021.
