Two men were remanded to prison on Monday by Magistrate Judy Latchman after they were slapped with a joint charge for unlawful wounding and appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
Deon Glasgow, 28, and Troy Bourne, 27, were charged jointly for unlawfully wounding Joel Leitch.
It is alleged that the men on September 25, 2018 at Sussex Street, Georgetown, unlawfully and maliciously wounded Leitch with intent to maim, disfigure, and cause disablement and grievous bodily harm.
Both men denied the allegation after the charge was read to them.
According to the prosecution’s case, on September 25, 2018, the Virtual Complainant was in the company of his friends at a funeral when Glasgow approached him and dealt him a chop with a cutlass which he barred with his hand. The VC, according to the prosecution, began running, but Bourne went in hot pursuit. The VC then stopped running as he feared that he might be chopped in the back and turned to face Bourne who dealt him several chops with the cutlass about his body during which one of his fingers fell to the ground. He was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital for medical attention. A report was made to the Police, and Glasgow and Bourne were arrested.
Magistrate Latchman remanded both men to prison for the wounding charge
Additionally, Bourne was slapped with another charge which stated that on September 23, 2018 at John Fernandes Ltd, Georgetown, he unlawfully assaulted Jenika Prophet with intent to cause actual bodily harm.
Bourne also denied this charge.
According to the facts presented, on the day in question, the VC was approached by the defendant, who she informed that she no longer wanted to continue their relationship. This allegedly angered Bourne who grabbed her hair and dealt her a punch to her face.
The Police Prosecutor objected to bail in relation to the unlawful wounding allegation noting the seriousness of the charge. The Prosecutor also informed the court that the VC is still hospitalised. Bourne was granted $100,000 bail for the assault charge.
The cases will continue on October 15, 2018.
