An early morning fire on Thursday has extensively destroyed a workshop at Lot 86 Durban and Smyth Streets, Werk-en-Rust, Georgetown.

The workshop that was on fire

Based on reports received, the fire started at sometime after 2:30h at the wooden-and-concrete structure, and tenders from the Central, Alberttown and West Ruimveldt Fire Stations responded.
Preliminary reports indicate that the fire might have started from the overloading of an electrical circuit, which resulted in a feedback to an electrical panel and ignition of nearby combustible materials. As a result of the fire, the Hot Stamp Machine, the Emboss Machine and the Open Tray Machine were completely destroyed, while the workshop sustained extensive damage.
Quick response from the fire service contained and extinguished the fire. No injury was reported during the blaze.
