Eagles soar to straight-sets victory in DVA Men’s League opener

The 2026 Men’s League season of the Demerara Volleyball Association (DVA) burst into life on open-ing day, April 27, at the National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue, drawing an enthusiastic crowd in Georgetown eager to witness the start of what promises to be a thrilling campaign.
The atmosphere was charged with fire and passion as the league opened with a high-energy show-down between Premier Eagles Volleyball Club (VC) and Guyana Defence Force (GDF) VC. From the opening whistle, the Eagles established their dominance, executing with precision and intensity to se-cure a commanding straight-sets victory. They took the first set convincingly 25–9, maintained control in the second with a 25–18 win, and sealed the match in the third set 25–19 to complete a 3–0 tri-umph.

Leading the charge for the Eagles was Ian Baggot, who delivered an outstanding performance and was deservedly named Player of the Game after registering 10 clinical attacks that consistently broke through GDF defences.
His offensive efficiency set the tone for the contest, while teammate Macrae fortified the net with four crucial blocks that stifled GDF’s attempts to build momentum. Despite the loss, GDF produced moments of resistance and individual brilliance, with Clarence Lucius tallying four ace serves to keep his side competitive and Omari Joseph contributing five well-executed attacks.
With the first day of competition wrapped up, the league has officially ignited, signalling the start of what is expected to be an exciting and fiercely contested season. Fans now turn their attention to the next encounter, where Castrol Strikers will go head-to-head with Classic Ball Blasters in another elec-trifying matchup that promises more drama, intensity, and unforgettable volleyball action.
