Twenty-two-year-old Imran Khan, also called ‘Germs,’ of Fort Ordinance Housing Scheme, East Canje Berbice, was on Thursday remanded to prison for the murder of 24-year-old Alex Williams, a mason who was chopped to death on March 12.
The unrepresented Khan was not required to plead to the indictable charge of murder on his arraignment before Magistrate Robindranauth Singh at the Reliance Magistrate’s Court. He
will make his next court appearance on April 5, 2022 at the New Amsterdam Magistrates’ Courts.
The Police on Wednesday evening arrested the key suspect in Williams’s murder at a home at Number 65 Village, Corentyne. According to the Police, a group of officers went to the home and arrested the 24-year-old construction worker of New Amsterdam, who goes by the alias ‘Black Boy’.
It has been reported that on Saturday, March 12, between 21:30h and 22:00h, Williams was chopped to his neck, and died shortly after reaching the New Amsterdam Hospital.
Sections of the media had reported that Alex Williams, who had left home to purchase cigarettes and beers, had returned shortly after and told his father that he was ‘disrespected’ by a group of friends, and had asked his father if he was going with him.
Williams had reportedly armed himself with a cutlass when he left his home, and had confronted the three suspects when a full bottle of Guinness was thrown at him. It exploded, and being hit with the bottle, Williams reportedly fell to the ground; and while there, he was chopped by one of the suspects. It is believed that the fatal blow was a chop to his neck.
Meanwhile, Police are on the hunt for a third suspect.
