East Canje teen stabbed to death

An East Canje, Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne) teenager is now dead following a stabbing incident in East Canje on Saturday evening.
Dead is Shawn Persaud called “Buckman”, 17, of Besty Ground.
According to the Police, a 28-year-old man, who was standing on the Adelphi Access Road, reported that he heard someone shouting: “Buckman get bore.”
He said he ran to the connecting street where he saw a crowd gathered and Persaud lying on the ground. The injured man was taken to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital where he pronounced dead.

The 17-year-old suspect, who is called “Lion”, was arrested on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, the dead teen’s mother, Donna Persaud, told this publication that she was at home when she was informed of the incident, but by the time she arrived at the hospital she was informed that her son had already passed away.
The woman said there was a wound in the vicinity of the heart.
She claimed that she was told several persons were in the area but they did not assist him to get medical attention.
“It is his friends who had to go and fetch him out but they don’t know what took place,” the grieving mother said.
According to the mother of eight, she was told that her son and a few friends were hanging out when a misunderstanding over difference of views arose.
“…I did not expect something like to that to happen. I thought that they would have lived happy because all of the time they does live happy,” she said, referring to the suspect who stabbed her son.

Persaud, who lives at Lot 23 Sookraj Street, Adelphi, said she was forced to seek employment earlier this year after her husband, who was the breadwinner, was allegedly murdered in March.
Fifty-one-year-old Nohar Singh had gone missing in March and his body was fished out of the Canje River a few days later. According to the widow, she has no money to bury her son. She noted that it was only last week that she put a grandchild to rest. (G4)
